Methodist Retirement Communities
For the last century, Methodist retirement communities have provided housing and care to senior citizens. One hundred years ago the United Methodist Church recognized a need for better care and housing for seniors than what was already available. The founders of UMRC saw that their aged citizens needed more than just a place to live. They also needed care and companionship.Today these retirement communities are recognized as some of the finest in the industry and are preferred by many seniors of the Methodist Christian faith. These communities offer different services and features for senior citizens with various medical and personal needs.
One type of community that UMRC offers is the active retirement community. An active community is for senior citizens who are independent and do not require nursing care. Although an active community may be within close range of a medical facility there may not be one located on the premises. One example of this type of community is the Cedars at Dexter in Michigan. These low maintenance luxury cottages are for those 60 years and up. At this community you will find scenic paved walking paths, a club house featuring both casual and fine dining, fitness center and much more.
An example of a UMRC assisted living community is the Chelsea Retirement Community also in Michigan. This facility offers 24-hour nursing care, a state of the art emergency response system and transportation services to medical appointments and other places. Here you will also find luxurious living quarters, classes and social programs, a fitness center and more. Like all UMRC communities, spirituality plays a part and church services are provided every Sunday. There are also two chaplains on staff available to offer faith-based counseling during the weekdays.
Other Methodist retirement communities include rehabilitation facilities and Alzheimer's care facilities. These are different from active and assisted living because there is a much greater emphasis on medical care. At a rehabilitation community stays are often limited in duration because once the medical issue is resolved the patient returns home. Alzheimer's care communities are especially for those dealing with this disease in any stage. These patients often require special care which the staff is trained to provide. One thing all UMRC communities share is the commitment to high quality living and care for the senior citizens who reside there.
